LampshadePlace the lamp base (A) on a flat surface and make sure it is plugged in.Position the alignment plate (B) on top of and in the center of the lamp base (A). In order to properly center the alignment plate thereis a location pin in the center of the underside of (B) that fits into a hole on the topside of (A).Set the placement tool (C) on top of the alignment plate (B) in a concentric position.LevitationWith one hand pick up the levitating magnet (D) and hold the small circumference side of the magnet with one hand. This is the top side of the magnet.

From a height of about 12 inches above the Lamp Base (A), lower the magnet fairly quickly (takes about 2 seconds) to within an inch above the rim of the placement tube and release it. This should be a smooth and continuous motion and make sure that the plane of the magnet remains horizontal as it is lowered. If done correctly the magnet will automatically find its levitation height and center itself.

Now you should be able to spin the magnet and it will turn freely inside the placement tube. If it rests against a side of the tube which you are holding in place with your other hand then you were not successful and will need to lift it up the magnet once more to the original height and try again. (note: this procedure becomes quite easy after a few times. The trick is to actually drop the magnet as you are approaching the rim of the tube) [Figure 1]

Setting the lamp shade on the magnet

• Adjust your viewing position so that you are able to see upward from the base of the lamp. Using two hands, very gently lower the lamp shade (E) onto the levitating disc (D). You will want an unobstructed line of sight, so you can carefully line it up with the top side of the disc. Note that the shade must be placed on the disc in a level fashion. It cannot be placed at an angle, or else the disc will fall.
